ARTIST STATEMENT:
My artwork presents a deeply expressive and intuitive style, characterised by layered textures, vibrant colours and a profound connection to nature and spirituality. The use of techniques such as washing and dripping and scraping adds depth and movement inviting the viewer into an immersive and contemplative experience. My subject matter often draws from natural elements: pond reflections, seasons and botanical forms serving as metaphors for inner reflection and spiritual exploration. This approach resonates with the concept of “thin places” where the boundary between the physical and spiritual realms becomes permeable, offering moments of awe and tranquility. I hope my art invites viewers into a meditative space, encouraging a deeper appreciation for their own experience and appreciation of the beauty of the natural world and our place within it. There is a poetry in paint and nature, seasons, water, and cycle of shapes and structures, embalmed with light. No moment is the same, and in the process of turning up to the canvas, the palette in my imagination becomes suspended in the noticing of the present. The final marks dictate the energy, the mood and atmosphere until an inner conclusion is reached, and waits further interpretation in the viewers eye.
BIO:
I’m a self taught, expressive painter. I grew up surrounded by fabrics in South Manchester as such my brain is imprinted with texture. I’m interested in how we attach meaning to marks, and how that meaning is shaped over time by intersectional aspects. For example, my connection to texture has been shaped by growing up in a textile workshop, my Northern heart helps me to see the inequality in the North / South divide, and my time spent in Spain and France helped shape my colour palette. Something so soothing for me, the rich, vibrant colour pops. I studied BA Hons Social Anthropology in French and Spanish at Aix en Provence University and Seville University. Languages and curiosity for travel have always made my heart sing. Wellbeing is also close to my heart and I also have an MA in Art Psychotherapy from the University of Hertfordshire. I’m passionate about how art and creative expression makes a difference to our wellbeing and human experience. I focused fully on my practice since 2012 and participated in various London Art Fairs and Open competitions. I’m blessed to receive mentoring by Paul Regan ARWS and am part of the North London Studio Friday Collective. I am also part of a diverse creative community at my North London church. I’m honoured that my pieces are held in private collections all over the world from USA, Australia, Switzerland, Iran, Israel, Tokyo, Spain and UK.
